Chrislam | The Universal Religion described in Revelation

Chrislam means Christianity and Islam unity. Allah and Yahweh are placed on the same level, Jesus and Mohammed are both “only” prophets, and the Quaran and the Bible are both read in the services.

Chrislam is an attempt at syncretism between Christianity and Islam, representing the universal religion. It began in Nigeria in the 1980s, and Chris-Islamic ideas have since spread to much of the world. The essential concept of Chrislam is that Christianity and Islam are compatible. And that one can be Christian and Muslim at the same time. Chrislam has grown dramatically and has now infected many hundreds of churches.

Since the word of God is only the Bible and not the Quaran, the fusion of Christianity and Islam is unacceptable. The central belief that the Bible and the Quaran contradict is Jesus. The Bible declares that Jesus is God (John 1: 1) and the son of God (Mark 1: 1). According to the Quran, Jesus is not God (Sura 5:17). And Jesus is not the son of God (Sura 4: 171; Sura 72: 3). Furthermore, Islam denies the death of Jesus Christ on the cross (Sura 4: 157-158). Islam sees Jesus only as a messenger from Allah and nothing else (Sura 4: 171).

History of Chrislam

When Christians and Muslims come together, the result is always the same: Muslims advance, and Christians retreat”. And there is no shortage of bloggers who define the movement as the Antichrist, a name already dedicated in the recent past to other figures accused of syncretisms, such as Obama and Pope John Paul II.

The history of Chrislam was born in the 1970s in Tela Tella, Nigeria. The Chrislam movement recognises both the Bible and the Quaran as sacred texts. The concept has travelled and is acquiring new life through Grace Fellowship Church in Atlanta, Georgia, as a sort of response to the increasingly looming need for confrontation born following that tragic 11 September 10 years ago.

Despite this, the movement does not seem to want to stop. The most sceptical commented with peremptory, “No to religious syncretism!” and “It is the beginning of the end.”

What is the goal of Universal Religion?

Muslims also proclaim the message of their religion. However, many build on the future through their children’s “right” religious upbringing. A Muslim woman can only marry a Muslim man, but a Muslim can marry a woman from a family of other faiths. Because according to the rules of Islam, the children are always following the religion raised by the man.

The universal religion is aimed at all people worldwide and is very common. The word “universal” comes from Latin. It means “all-encompassing.”

Besides Islam, Christianity and Buddhism are also universal religions. They have different priorities when it comes to spreading their beliefs. In Christianity, Missionaries play an essential role. These are, for example, priests, nuns, or monks, but often also simply congregation members. Today they talk about Jesus in church services, events, or in their circle of friends. Similarly, Buddhists spread their faith.

What is the central belief in Chrislam?

Since the word of God is only the Bible and not the Quaran, the fusion of Christianity and Islam is unacceptable. According to the Quran, Jesus is not God (Sura 5:17), and he is not his son (Sura 4: 171; Sura 72: 3). Furthermore, Islam denies the death of Jesus Christ on the cross (Sura 4: 157-158). Islam sees Jesus only as a messenger from Allah and nothing else (Sura 4: 171).

The central belief that the Bible and the Quaran contradict is Jesus. The Bible declares that Jesus is God (Isaiah 9: 6; John 1: 1) and the son of God (Mark 1: 1).

John 14: 6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” Only in Jesus is salvation. The following biblical passages are clearly in contradiction with what Islam claims about Jesus:

1 John 2:22: “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. “

1 John 4: 2-3: “By this, you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that recognises that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is from God. And any energy that does not acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is not from God; this is the spirit of the Antichrist which, as you have heard, is to come; and now he is already in the world. “

Chrislam as a peacemaker

Nigeria is characterised by violent conflicts between the Muslim north and the Christian south. About half of Nigeria’s 140 million inhabitants are Muslims; the other half are Christians. In this field of tension, the mixed religion Chrislam acts as a peacemaker.

Shamsuddin Saka grew up Muslim, while his father was a traditional African naturopath to whom both Christians and Muslims sought help. His upbringing made him tolerant of other religions, and according to Saka himself, he was incomprehensible to Nigeria’s religious conflicts.

After returning home from a pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj, ed.), Saka was told by God to make peace between Christians and Muslims.

Same sun

Chrislam was founded in the 1980s by the man Tela Tella. His followers call him His Royal Holiness, the Messenger, or even Ifeoluwa, which means the Will of God. Chrislam has approximately 1,500 followers who come mainly from Lagos.

Tella’s words of wisdom to his followers are: The same sun that dries a Muslim’s clothes also dries the Christians, adding: I don’t think God loves Christians more than Muslims.

Religion as a practical way of life

In Nigeria, religion is part of a practical way of life, says Kamaldeen Balogun, a professor of Islamic Studies at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Southeast Nigeria. Religious historian Mikael Rothstein elaborates: When people shape their religions, it always happens about the society they are a part of.

With Chrislam, you take exactly the things you want and create a religion that corresponds to your needs. In the Nigerians’ hope for help, they thus try to combine elements from Christianity, Islam, and traditional African religion.

Conclusion

Chrislam has created very hard controversies even within the dense North American evangelical environment. The public “J’accuse” of television preacher Jack Van Impe made the news, who on the Tbn (Trinity broadcasting network) attacked pastor Rick Warren, head of a church attended by 20,000 people, of mixing Christianity and Islam after he had participated in an Islamic convention.

Therefore, Chrislam is the religion that was written about in the Book of Revelation.  This religion aims to create unity and harmony within people.
